EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State women's golf completed the final day of play (Sunday, Sept. 19) at the 22nd annual Mary Fossum Invitational, finishing out the 54-hole event in second place. The Spartans shot a third- round 313 on the final day of play, giving them a 925 (303-309-313) overall. Hosted at State's home course at Forest Akers West in East Lansing, the Spartans were represented by two teams throughout the weekend event. MSU's A squad finished in second, while the B team took ninth place, shooting a 952 (320-310-312).
"It's always nice to play at home," said eighth-year head coach Stacy Slobodnik-Stoll. "It was a good outing for us. I think that having an A and a B team gives us the opportunity to see which players are really hungry and want to get back in the lineup. They got a chance to put it out there today."
Michigan took home the tournament title, its first victory ever at the Fossum Invitational, shooting a 919 (306-303-310). Northwestern finished in third place shooting a 926 (310-305-311) while Wisconsin (928) and Illinois State (933) rounded out the top-five teams.

"Kristen is someone who has been waiting in the wings. I knew that when we recruited her she was very, very gifted and she is really coming into her own right now," Slobodnik-Stoll commented on Polanski's impressive performance. "She had a great outing today. She is one person that I am very pleased from today's round."
