EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State junior Paul Davis (Rochester, Mich.) has been named one of the Top 50 Preseason Candidates for the 2004-05 Wooden Award All-American Team. Created in 1976, the John R. Wooden Award is the most prestigious individual honor in college basketball. Only returning players are eligible for the Preseason Team, although transfers and freshmen as well as other players who excel throughout the season will be evaluated and considered for the Midseason Top 30 list and the National Ballot. Davis was a first-team All-Big Ten selection in 2003-04, while also earning Associated Press Honorable Mention All-American honors. He averaged a team-best 15.8 points and 6.2 rebounds per contest en route to being selected Team MVP. An NABC and USBWA all-district selection, Davis was twice named Big Ten Player of the Week. In addition to Davis, Illinois' Dee Brown and Deron Williams, Indiana's Bracey Wright and Michigan's Daniel Horton made the list of 50 from the Big Ten.
