EAST LANSING, Mich. - Former Michigan State All-American Paul Terek will make his Olympic debut when he competes in the decathlon next Monday and Tuesday (Aug. 23-24) at Athens Olympic Stadium. Terek made the Olympic team after finishing third at the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials last month with a personal-best 8,312 points. Terek and the rest of the field will compete in the 100-meter dash, long jump, shot put, high jump and 400-meter dash on Monday's opening day. The second day of competition will feature the 110-meter hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin and conclude with the 400-meter dash. Terek, a 2002 MSU graduate, is joined on the U.S. team by reigning World Champion Tom Pappas, one of the gold medal favorites, and Bryan Clay, who won the decathlon at the U.S. trials. The current world record-holder and IAAF world-ranked No. 1 for the event, Roman Sebrle of the Czech Republic, is also expected to contend for the gold, while Dmitriy Karpov of Kazakhstan could also contend.
