Past And Present MSU Golfers At The Tournament Of Champions

BOYNE FALLS, Mich. - The 13th Annual Detroit Newspapers Tournament of Champions, conducted by the Michigan PGA, is being held at the Boyne Mountain Resort in Boyne Falls, Mich., July 19-21. Open only to champions of sanctioned Michigan golf events, the field consists of men and women, seniors and juniors, amateurs and professionals. The tournament carries a $100,000 purse.
The Tournament of Champions winner will receive the Walter Burkemo Trophy, a special blazer, an honorary lifetime membership at Country Club of Boyne, his/her portrait on the Tournament of Champions Wall of Fame in the Clubhouse of CC of Boyne, and top prize money if a professional.
The only current Spartan in the event is red-shirt freshman Kristen Polanski (Livonia, Mich.), who is tied for 93rd with an 81 after the first round on Monday, July 19.
Former Spartan Stacy Snider (1999-2002), the defending Tournament of Champion winner, shot a 74 and is in a tie for 28th place. Jennifer (Kangas) Brody (1993-96) shot a 76 and is tied for 50th.
On the men's side, former Spartan All-American Eric Jorgensen (2000-03) shot a 68 in the opening round and is tied for Elaine Crosby (Jackson, Mich.) for second place. Jorgensen and Crosby are one shot off the lead of Scott Hebert, who posted an opening-round 67.
Lynn Janson (1968-70), a three-time All-American at MSU, posted an opening round 71 and is in a five-way tie for the eighth position.
The second round from the Tournament of Champions will be played on Tuesday, July 20, while the final round is set for Wednesday, July 21.
