Women's Golf Finishes Third At 2004 NCAA Central Regionals

NORMAL, Ill. - Michigan State women's golf finished in third place at the 2004 NCAA Central Regional Championships with a 54-hole total of 906 (302-303-301). The Spartans shot a final-round 301 on Saturday (May 8) at the par 71, 6,108-yard University Golf Course in Normal, Ill.
Vanderbilt was the 2004 NCAA Central Regional Champion after posting an 895 (298-307-290), while Arizona finished second with a 902 (299-313-290). The top eight teams in the region advance to the NCAA Championships, including Vanderbilt, Arizona, MSU, Southern Cal, Baylor, Purdue, New Mexico and Texas A&M.
MSU's third-place finish equals the team's best effort in regional play, also set in 2001. State advances to the NCAA Championships for the fourth time in the last five years under head coach Stacy Slobodnik-Stoll.
Senior Allison Fouch (Grand Rapids, Mich.) posted her fifth top-five showing of the season as she finished tied for fourth with a 221 (73-74-74). Fouch shot a 74 in Saturday's final round. Arizona's Erica Blasberg took medalist honors with a 212 (68-73-71).
Senior Sarah Martin (Grosse Ile, Mich.) finished tied for 17th with a 229 (76-77-77). Meanwhile, freshman Heather Rose (Chillicothe, Ohio) placed tied for 27th with a 231 (82-73-76), while sophomore Dayna Burleigh (Horsham, Pa.) finished tied for 31st with a 232 (75-80-77).
Senior Ann Marie Kersten (Oak Harbor, Ohio) rounds out the Spartan line-up as she is tied for 49th with a 236 (78-84-74).
The 2004 NCAA Championships will be held May 18-21 at the Grand National Lake Course in Auburn, Ala.
