BATON ROUGE, La. - Sophomore Brad Gebauer (Bad Axe, Mich.) finished sixth in the pole vault, clearing a height of 16-11, as the Michigan State men's track and field team completed competition at the NCAA Mideast Regional Saturday, May 29. The Spartans tied Mississippi for 18th in the final standings, scoring 11 points each. Arkansas won the NCAA Mideast Regional with 95 points while host Louisiana State took second (70) and Auburn third (51).
The top five finishers in each event automatically qualify for the NCAA Championships scheduled for June 10-12 in Austin, Texas, so Gebauer must wait until Tuesday, June 1 to see if he will earn an at-large bid.
Freshman Mark Langlois (Fruitport, Mich.) also competed in the pole vault but failed to record a height.
Senior Steve Manz (West Branch, Mich.), who finished second in the shot put (63-4 1/4) Friday, didn't fair as well Saturday night, fouling out of the discus competition.
