Women's Golf Finishes Third At Lady Gator Invitational

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Michigan State women's golf finished third at the Florida Lady Gator Invitational in Gainesville, Fla., Tuesday (March 9) in the team's third tournament of the spring season. MSU shot a three-round score of 914 (299-317-298) at the par 70, 5,927-yard University of Florida Golf Course.
Duke won the team title with an 878 (292-296-290), while Ohio State placed second with a 911 (299-309-303). MSU (914), Florida (919) and Auburn (919) round out the top-five teams.
Four Spartans finished in the top 25, led by senior Allison Fouch (Grand Rapids, Mich.) who placed fourth. Fouch shot a three-round score of 219 (69-78-72). Fouch's opening round 69 tied for the third-lowest 18-hole score in MSU history.
Duke's Brittany Lang took medalist honors with a 216 (72-73-71).
Sophomore Dayna Burleigh (Horsham, Pa.) tied for 16th with a 231 (78-78-75), while senior Sarah Martin (Grosse Ile, Mich.) tied for 20th with a 232 (75-80-77).
Senior Ann Marie Kersten (Oak Harbor, Ohio) tied for 22nd with a 233 (77-82-74) to round out the Spartans in the top 25. Freshman Heather Rose (Chillicothe, Ohio) rounds out MSU's starting five as she tied for 43rd with a 238 (78-81-79).
MSU also has three golfers playing as individuals at the Lady Gator Invitational, including freshman Mandi McConnell (Grand Blanc, Mich.) tied for 61st with a 242 (81-81-80). Sophomore Jennifer Johnson (Okemos, Mich.) and red-shirt freshman Rachel Meikle (Fort Wayne, Ind.) finished tied for 69th with a 245. Johnson shot rounds of 86-77-82, while Meikle posted rounds an 89-78-78.
MSU returns to the links March 26-28 at the Liz Murphey Invitational in Athens, Ga.
