ATHENS, Ga. - Michigan State women's golf sits in sixth place after day two of the 2004 Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic in Athens, Ga. The Spartans fired a 297 on Saturday after shooting a 297 in the opening round and have a two-round score of 594.
"All-in-all we feel pretty good," said head coach Stacy Slobodnik-Stoll. "We left a lot of shots on the course today. We are definitely working to do the things we need to do to reach our goals this spring. We are playing a lot of the top teams, and we are seeing what need to do on a regular basis to reach our goals."
Eight of the top-25 teams in the country are at the University of Georgia Golf Course as No. 6 Ohio State leads the field with a 574. No. 5 Georgia is second with a 580 (292-288), while No. 1 Duke is third with a 583 (292-291). No. 8 Auburn sits in fourth at 588 (293-295) and No. 10 Oklahoma State is in fifth with a 589 (300-289).
Individually, senior Allison Fouch (Grand Rapids, Mich.) is tied for ninth after two rounds with a 145 (70-75). Seniors Ann Marie Kersten (Oak Harbor, Ohio) sits tied for 13th with a 146 (70-76).
Duke's Brittany Lang and Ohio State's Lindsay Knowlton pace the field with a 139.
Senior Sarah Martin (Grosse Ile, Mich.), who fired MSU's top score on Saturday with a 74, sits tied for 29th with a 79-72--151. Freshman Heather Rose (Chillicothe, Ohio) and sophomore Dayna Burleigh (Horsham, Pa.) round out the Spartan line-up in a tie for 49th with a 154. Rose has rounds of 78 and 76, while Burleigh has rounds of 80 and 74.
The final round of the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic will be played on Sunday with a shotgun start at 9 a.m.
