Women's Golf Finishes Second At Central District Classic

PARRISH, Fla. - The Michigan State women's golf team finished in second place after the final day of play (Feb. 24) at the Central District Classic, held at River Wilderness County Club in Parrish, Fla. The Spartans completed the last 18 holes of tournament action shooting a 310, putting them at 906 (298-298-310) overall.
This marks the fifth time this season that MSU has finished within the top two. The Spartans finished first at the Badger Invitational, Mary Fossum Invitational and Spartan/Wildcat Cup and tied for second at the Lady Northern Invitational.
Louisiana State won the tournament title, shooting a 903 (295-298-310). Kansas State took third place with a 912 (304-295-313). TCU (915) and Arkansas (921) round out the top five teams.
Wisconsin's Malinda Johnson, Texas A&M's Christa Spedding and TCU's Brooke Tull finished in a three-way tie for first place, with each player shooting a 220 respectively. Spedding was the overall winner with the low final round of 72.
Pacing the way for the Spartans, senior Allison Fouch (Grand Rapids, Mich.) finished the tournament with a 224 (74-76-74), good for fifth place overall. This marks the third time that she has finished in the top-five this season.
Coming of last week's Big Ten Golfer of the Week honor, senior Sarah Martin (Grosse Ile, Mich.) completed the final round of play in ninth place with a 226 (73-73-80), while senior Ann Marie Kersten (Oak Harbor, Ohio) finished in a three-way tie for 10th place overall, shooting a 227 (78-72-77). Kersten's 10th place finish was a career best.
Sophomore Dayna Burleigh (Horsham, Pa.) and freshman Heather Rose (Chillicothe, Ohio) round out the roster for the Spartans. Burleigh finished the tournament in a five-way tie for 29th place overall, shooting a 233 (75-77-81), while Rose shot a 235 (76-80-79), finishing play in a five-way tie for 36th.
The Spartan will hit the links March 7-9 at the Lady Gator Invitational in Gainsville, Fla.
