Northwestern Coach Bill Carmody
"We played well in the first half, but we just turned the ball over too much. We had 10 turnovers in the first half, and they converted them into a bunch of layups. That was the difference in the first half. I thought we could run our stuff pretty much. In the second half, I think they (Michigan State) came out with a little more intensity. In the second half, it seemed like they just took over. They were getting (the ball) inside, penetrating a little bit. I think we responded a little too much, a guy would take a dribble and we would react a little too much."
Thoughts on Michigan State
"I think it's a formula for success, and I said this before. In the conference, you defend your home court and you split on the road. They were 6-0 coming into this game at home and 3-3 on the road. It's a very solid team."
Michigan State Coach Tom Izzo
"We've got a unique team. I asked them what I should say to you. I think in spurts we are playing awfully well. I think our defense in spurts has been real, real good. The magnitude of some of those turnovers early...is kind of mind-boggling to me and I'm disappointed. We did a pretty good job of getting the ball inside and out, especially in the second half. When Paul (Davis) wanted the ball down low, he scored a lot of points in the second half. In the first half, we didn't do as good of a job."
"By far, our most consistent player lately has been Kelvin Torbert. He's not turning the ball over; he is getting some assists. And I was really happy for Alan Anderson, coming back after having maybe one of his worst games as a Spartan (vs. Purdue) to maybe one of his best if you look at his total line-six assists, including some key ones. He shot the ball well, rebounded a little bit better and I really thought he made some steps."
