EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State junior guard Chris Hill (Indianapolis, Ind.) was named to the 2004 Academic All-District IV team on Thursday. The district team is made up of student-athletes from Division I schools in Michigan, Ohio and Tennessee. Hill earned a spot on the team by posting a 3.84 grade-point average as a finance major.
Hill's name will now appear on the national ballot for the Verizon Academic All-America Men's Basketball team. He is joined on the all-district team by Youngstown State's Adam Baumann, Belmont's Steve Drabyn and Adam Mark and Austin Peay State's Rhet Wierzba. To be nominated, student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve and carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20 or higher. Team members are selected by vote of the members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) within the district.
This is the second straight season that Hill has earned Academic All-District honors. A 2003 Third-team Academic All-American, Hill is averaging 13.7 points, 2.8 rebounds and 3.9 assists. He is shooting 50.2 percent from the field and leads the Big Ten in three-point field-goal percentage at 45.7 percent. In the most recent NCAA statistics (released Feb. 16), Hill ranked fourth in the nation in three-point field-goal percentage. He is currently enrolled in MSU's Honors College.
