EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State senior guard Kristin Haynie (Mason) has been named Big Ten Women's Basketball Co-Player of the Week, the conference announced today. It is the first Big Ten Player of the Week honor for Haynie, who shares the award with Illinois' Angelina Williams.
Haynie flirted with a triple-double in only 27 minutes of action vs. Vermont Dec. 21, totaling 13 points, nine assists and eight rebounds while adding four steals. The Big Ten steals leader's nine assists were a season high and moved her into second place in the Big Ten in that category.
Haynie continues to be the only player in the Big Ten listed among the league leaders in scoring (23rd - 11.8), rebounding (tied for 12th - 6.6), assists (second - 5.11), steals (first - 4.11), free throw percentage (seventh - .880) and assist/turnover ratio (third - 2.30).
Williams earned a share of the honor after totaling 27 points, eight rebounds, five blocks and four assists during an Illinois victory over Illinois State.
Haynie is the second Spartan to receive the honor this year, as junior guard Lindsay Bowen (Dansville) was selected as the league's Player of the Week Dec. 6.
Michigan State will visit Connecticut Wednesday, Dec. 29, at 7 p.m.
