
Nick Simmons Selected To Wrestle At NWCA All-Star Meet

EAST LANSING, Mich.-Michigan State sophomore Nick Simmons has been selected to compete in the National Wrestling Coaches Association All-Star meet on Nov. 22 at Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville, Ill. He will face Oklahoma sophomore Sam Hazewinkle in the 125 lb. match. In the preseason rankings released by the NWCA, Hazewinkle is ranked No. 1, while Simmons is ranked No. 3.
Simmons took an Olympic redshirt last year, but looks to improve on a successful freshman year. This past summer, Simmons finished fifth in the Olympic Team Trials, competing in the freestyle division. In 2002-03, Simmons finished with a 29-12 record, finished 3rd at the Big Ten Championships and 7th at the NCAA Championships, also earning All-America honors. Simmons was a four-time Michigan high school state champ who compiled a record of 211-0 with an incredible 198 of those victories by fall or technical fall for Williamston High School. He was a three-time freestyle Junior National Champion.
