EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State women's soccer team opens a four-game road swing this weekend with two Big Ten contests in the state of Indiana. The Spartans face Indiana in Big Ten play this Friday (Oct. 8) at 8 p.m.
SPARTANS VISIT THE STATE OF INDIANA THIS WEEKEND: Michigan State opens a four-game road swing this weekend at Indiana this Friday (Oct. 8) at 8 p.m. After the Indiana contest, MSU will battle Purdue in West Lafayette on Sunday, Oct. 10 at 2 p.m. Last weekend, the Spartans suffered losses to No. 21 Ohio State (2-1, OT) and No. 5 Penn State (3-0) at home. Junior forward Emma Harris leads MSU with four goals and 11 points this season.
SCOUTING THE HOOSIERS: Indiana enters Friday's game against MSU with a 7-3-1 record (2-2-1 Big Ten) on the season. IU defeated Oakland (3-0) and lost to Wisconsin (5-2) at home last weekend. Senior midfielder Kim Grodek leads Indiana with six goals and 15 points on the season.
SCOUTING THE BOILERMAKERS: Purdue enters the weekend with a record of 6-5 (2-3 Big Ten). The Boilermakers are coming off a 1-0 loss to Wisconsin at home last weekend. Purdue is led in scoring by freshman forward Parissa Eyorokon with two goals and six points on the season.
SPARTANS RANKED SIXTH IN GREAT LAKES REGION: Michigan State was ranked sixth in the Great Lakes Region in both the Soccer Buzz and NSCAA/adidas polls last week. The Green and White is one of seven Big Ten teams that has been ranked in the region this season.
MORE FREE SOCCER FOR MSU: MSU played its third overtime game of the season last Friday against No. 21 Ohio State. The Spartans have an 0-2 record in extra period games this season.
MOVING UP IN MSU RECORD BOOK: Three Michigan State offensive players continue to etch their names among the school's all-time assists and points leaders. Senior Abby Shepherd and junior Emma Harris are tied for ninth place all-time with 15 assists while junior Erin Konheim is in 10th place with 14 assists. Harris is tied for 15th place in points scored with 45 for her career.
LOOKING AHEAD: Michigan State will conclude its four-game road schedule next weekend. The Spartans will take on Wisconsin on Friday, Oct. 15 at 8 p.m. before facing Oakland in a non-conference contest on Sunday, Oct. 17 at 1 p.m.
