EAST LANSING, Mich. - Senior midfielder Adrienne Treado (Troy) scored her third goal of the season as the Michigan State women's soccer team defeated Eastern Michigan, 1-0, at Old College Field to extend its winning streak to three games. With the win, MSU improves to 11-7-1 on the season, while EMU's record falls to 10-5-3.
After a scoreless first half, the Spartans got on the board in the 52nd minute on a 15-yard shot by Treado over the head of EMU goalkeeper Nikki Allen to the back of the net. Junior forwards Erin Konheim (West Bloomfield) and Emma Harris (Portage) recorded assists on the goal.
"I received a really nice pass from Emma and I had a look at the goal so I took a shot," said Treado.
EMU's Jessica Hupe had an opportunity to tie the game in the 63rd minute, but MSU senior goalkeeper Erin Carlson (Portage) dove in front of the ball to make the save.
Michigan State held the advantage over Eastern Michigan in shot attempts (15-2) and corner kicks (5-3). Carlson had to make only one save to record her fifth shutout win of the season.
"After the big win Friday over Michigan, there was a chance for a letdown. But our team came out to play today," Michigan State head coach Tom Saxton said.
MSU completes the regular season next weekend with a non-conference game against Akron on Saturday, Oct. 30 at noon.
