EVANSTON, Ill. - The Michigan State men's soccer team tied Northwestern, 1-1, on Sunday afternoon. For the Spartans (4-2-2, 0-0-2), it marked their second consecutive tie in Big Ten play.
John Minagawa-Webster (Jr., Monroe) scored his team-leading fifth goal of the season just 14:50 in to the contest. Minagawa-Webster converted on a header off a free kick from sophomore midfielder Steve Doster (Frankfort, Ill.). The assist was Doster's first of the season.
Michigan State held off the Wildcats (3-2-4, 0-0-1) until the beginning of the second half. Northwestern netted a goal on a header at the 56:13 mark.
The Spartan defense was strong again; led by senior goalkeeper Mike Robinson (Troy) who had two saves in the contest.
Next up, the Spartans travel to Loyola (Chicago) on Wednesday (Oct.1). The game time is 5:00 p.m. EDT. Michigan State's next Big Ten game is against Ohio State on Sunday (Oct. 5) at 1:00 p.m. EDT in East Lansing. It will be the Spartans' first home game in almost a month.
