Men's Golf Finishes Seventh At Inverness Intercollegiate

TOLEDO, Ohio - Michigan State men's golf team finished seventh at the Inverness Intercollegiate on Saturday (Sept. 20). The Spartans shot a three-round score of 907 (307-296-304) to close out the tournament at the par 71, 7,255 yard Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio.
UCLA, who is ranked No. 2 in the country in the preseason Golfweek poll, won the event with an 886, while Kansas State finished second with an 896 and No. 29 Illinois sits was third with an 898. The Spartans did beat two ranked teams in No. 24 Minnesota, who finished ninth; No. 30 Duke, who finished tied for 13th.
Senior Ben Fox (Fort Wayne, Ind.) and freshman Matt Harmon (Grand Rapids, Mich.) were the top finishers for the Spartans, finishing in a nine-way tie for 13th place. Fox shot a three-round score of 72-72-81-225, while Harmon posted a 77-72-76-225. UCLA's John Merrick took medalist honors after shooting a 216 (71-74-71).
Junior Andrew Ruthkoski (Muskegon, Mich.) finished tied for 32nd with a three-round score of 229 (78-77-74), including a tournament-best round of 74 on Saturday. Redshirt freshman Zac Zedrick (Danville, Ill.) tied for 38th with a 230 (80-75-75).
Rounding out the Spartan lineup is freshman Craig Revell (Kingston, Ont.), who is tied for 60th. Revell shot a three-round score of 237 (80-78-79).
Michigan State returns to action at the Adams Cup of Newport in Newport, R.I., Sept. 29-30.
