Women's Tennis Continues Action At Bronco Invitational

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - Senior Caroline Lay (Brisbane, Australia) went 3-0, winning two singles matches and a doubles match, to highlight day two action for the Michigan State women's tennis team at the Bronco Invitational.
In Flight "A" singles, Lay defeated Ball State's Melissa Roach, 6-3, 6-3, and Eastern Michigan's Kendra Clark, 6-0, 6-2, to reach the finals of the consolation bracket. Lay also teamed with freshman Sarah Andrews (Wanguni Darwin NT, Australia) in Flight "A" doubles for an 8-3 win over a team from Western Michigan, putting the Spartan duo in the consolation finals.
Also in Flight "A" singles, sophomore Shelley Brady (Grand Blanc, Mich.) won a three-set match in the consolation bracket against Indiana's Martina Grimm, 6-4, 1-6, 1-0 (8), but then lost to Veronica Garcia-Briseno of Marquette, 6-0, 6-1.
In Flight "B" singles, junior Karen Gustafson (East Lansing, Mich.) was defeated by Jenny Batty of Ball State, 6-1, 7-6, in the consolation bracket. Gustafson also fell to Cecile Perton of Indiana, 7-5, 6-2.
Andrews competed in Flight "C" singles, falling in the quarterfinals to Marquette's Dominika Dabrowski in three sets, 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (8). Andrews bounced back in the winners bracket consolation, defeating Francina Bonnelly of Marquette, 6-4, 7-5.
Gustafson and Brady teamed in Flight "B" doubles, but dropped an 8-1 decision to a duo from Indiana.
The Bronco Invitational will conclude with winner's bracket and consolation bracket finals on Sunday.
