EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State women's soccer exhibition game ended with a 1-1 tie against Virginia on Friday, Aug. 22 at Old College Field in East Lansing, Mich.
After a scoreless first half, Virginia struck first with a goal at 73:49. MSU answered when sophomore Linsey Laskowski (Troy, Mich.) scored a goal on a header off a cross from sophomore Emily Wiegand (Portage, Mich.) in the 77th minute of the game.
Both defenses dominated the scrimmage as Virginia finished with 27 shots, while Michigan State attempted three. MSU senior goalkeeper Stacy Heller (Madison, Wis.) was the star of the game, recording 13 saves.
"I felt it was a great opportunity to play such a great team as Virginia in a pre-season match," said MSU head coach Tom Saxton. "The positive of today was MSU showed great character by hanging in there and answering the Cavaliers' goal."
