Manz Leads Spartans at Jesse Owens Track Classic

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Michigan State men's track team wrapped up its regular season, Saturday, May 3 by competing in the final day of the Jesse Owens Track Classic held at Ohio State University.
Steve Manz (Jr., West Branch) was the top-finisher for the Spartans on the day, taking second in the shot put with a throw of 59-05 ?. Also competing in the shot put was Derek Strittmatter (Fr., Quincy) who placed 10th with a toss of 50-02 ?.
In the high jump, Brian Sherwood (Fr., Fowlerville) recorded a fifth-place finish, clearing a height of 6-05 ?. State's Julien Williams (Fr., Orlando, Fla.) leaped 22-09 in the long jump, which was good for 10th place.
The Spartans will compete at the Big Ten Championships May 16-18 in Minneapolis, Minn.
