Jamie Krzyminski Wins Big Ten 10,000-Meter Title

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Sophomore Jamie Krzyminski (Corunna, Mich.) won the 10,000-meter race at the 2003 Big Ten Women's Track and Field Championships on Friday, May 16. Crossing the finish line in a time of 34:54.96, Krzyminski won her first 10,000-meter Big Ten title and the second title of her career, as she also won the 5000-meter title at the Big Ten Indoor Championships.
The Spartans are currently in third place after the first day of competition at the Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Minneapolis, Minn. With 18 points, MSU trails second-place Penn State by just one point, while defending conference champion Michigan leads the conference championship with 25 points.
The 10,000-meter race saw two other Spartans join Krzyminski in the top ten. Junior Cindy Durocher (Parry Sound, Ont.) finished fourth, with a 36:26.04, while freshman Natalie Stein (North Hollywood, Calif.) took seventh, crossing the line in 36:49.57.
Freshman Anna Coster (Adelaide, S. Australia) is currently in 10th place following the first four events of the women's heptathlon. Coster finished sixth in the 200-meter dash (28.53) and eighth in the high jump (5-1), while taking a pair of ninth-place finishes in the 100-meter hurdles (15.93) and shot put (31-11?).
The Big Ten championships continue tomorrow (May 17) with the remaining four events in the heptathlon, as well as the shot put, long jump, javelin and 3,000-meter steeplechase. Trials for five races, two hurdle events and the 4X100-meter relay will also take place at the Bierman Track and Field Stadium on the campus of the University of Minnesota.
