DES MOINES, Iowa - Junior Jamie Krzyminski (Corunna, Mich.) placed second in the 5,000-meter run during the opening day of the Drake Relays. Krzyminski finished with a personal-best time of 16:24.96, finishing exactly half a second behind the race winner, Debbie Thornhill of Baylor (16:24.46).
Thornhill and Krzyminski finished well ahead of the rest of the pack, as the third-place finisher, Casey Owens of Southwest Missouri State, completed the race with a time of 16:52.37.
"I felt a little slow," Krzyminski said. "The wind was tough on the backstretch. It was hard to lose in the last 10 meters, but I put in what I had. It just wasn't enough today."
Senior Cindy Durocher (Parry Sound, Ontario) was sixth in the 19-woman field, finishing with a time of 17:00.85.
The second day of competition at the Drake Relays will take place Friday, April 25. Four MSU track and field athletes will compete in five events during the competition's second day.
