Spartans Conclude Competition At NCAA Indoor Track Championships

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Michigan State concluded competition at the 2003 NCAA Indoor Championships Saturday hosted by the University of Arkansas.
Senior Ann Somerville (Ironwood) was the lone women's competitor for the day, placing 14th out of 17 runners in the 3,000-meter run. Somerville finished in 9:43.72, while Shalane Flanagan of North Carolina won the event in 9:01.05.
On the men's side, junior Steve Manz (West Branch) placed sixth in his flight and 12th overall with a throw of 61-2 1/4 (18.65m). Manz started with a heave of 17.38m, before improving to 18.64m on his second throw. His third and final throw was his best but was not good enough to advance him to the finals. Carl Myerscough of Nebraska was the winner of the event with a toss of 70-6 1/4.
The NCAA Championships conclude the indoor season for the Michigan State track teams.
