Manz, Krzyminski To Compete At NCAA Indoor Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Track and Field Committee announced the participants in the 2003 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships, and two Michigan State athletes are included. Junior Steve Manz (West Branch) qualified in the shot put, while on the women's side, junior Jamie Krzyminski (Corunna) will compete in the 5,000-meter run.
The championships will be held March 14-15, at Randall Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, Arkansas. The University of Arkansas serves as the host.
Krzyminski will compete first, participating in the 5,000 at 7:20 p.m. Friday. Krzyminski is seeded 12th of the 16 competitors based on her qualifying time of 16:17.50 set while winning the 5,000 at the Armory Invitational Feb. 14. Junior Michelle Carson (Winnipeg, Manitoba) came up just short in her attempt to qualify, as her time of 16:24.59 at Saturday's Alex Wilson Invitational was 2.5 seconds behind the pace of the 16th and final competitor.
Manz will compete Saturday at 4:30 p.m. in the shot put. He is seeded 15th of the 16 competitors based on his school-record throw of 61-8 ? (18.80m) at the Big Ten Championships March 1.
Both Manz and Krzyminski will be making their first appearances at the NCAA Indoor Championships.
