Men's Track Team Set For Big Ten Championships

After seven indoor meets this season, the Michigan State men's track team is ready for its most important meet to this point-The Big Ten Championship meet. The Spartans will compete in the conference championship Saturday and Sunday (Mar. 1-2) in Champaign, Ill. Events are scheduled to get underway at 10 a.m. Saturday.
"It is going to be a great meet, the Big Ten always has great competition," said coach Darroll Gatson. "We have a lot of injuries right now so it will be tough."
Leading the Spartans into Champaign will be junior shot putter Steve Manz (West Branch), freshman high jumper Brian Sherwood (Fowlerville), redshirt-freshman long jumper Julien Williams (Orlando, Fla.) and freshman pole vaulter Brad Gebauer (Bad Axe). All five athletes have recorded top-five finishes this season in their respective events. Manz has provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships, held March 14-15 in Fayetteville, Ark., in the shot put.
