Men's Golf Finishes Seventh At Duke Golf Classic

DURHAM, N.C. - Michigan State's men's golf team placed seventh at the 2003 Duke Golf Classic on Monday, Oct. 20. MSU shot a three-round total of 890 (293-292-305) at the par 72, 7,111-yard Duke Golf Club in Durham, N.C.
North Carolina won the Duke Golf Classic with a three-round score of 868, while Illinois placed second with an 869 and Duke third at 871.
Individually, freshman Matt Harmon (Grand Rapids, Mich.) earned his first career top-five finish as he tied for fourth with a 216 (72-66-78). Harmon's 66 in the second round ranks tied for second on MSU's low-18 hole score chart. North Carolina's Dustin Bray won the individual title after firing a 207 (71-65-71).
Junior Andrew Ruthkoski (Muskegon, Mich.) jumped up six spots to finish tied for 16th with a 221 (72-76-73) for his second top-20 finish of the fall, while freshman Craig Revell (Kingston, Ont.) improved to 30th with a 225 (74-76-75).
Rounding out the Spartan line-up was senior Ben Fox (Fort Wayne, Ind.) and sophomore James Chestnut (Grand Blanc, Mich.). Fox tied for 52nd with a 230 (77-74-79), while Chestnut placed tied for 64th with a 235 (75-81-79).
The Duke Golf Classic closed out the fall schedule for the Spartan golf team. MSU returns to the links Feb. 22 with the Green and the White in Houston, Texas.
