Women's Soccer Loses In Overtime To Indiana, 3-2

EAST LANSING, Mich. -- The Michigan State women's soccer team lost to Indiana, 3-2, in a Big Ten match on Sunday afternoon at Old College Field. The Spartans fall to 7-6-0 (3-5-0 Big Ten) on the season as Indiana improves to 6-6-1 (3-3-1 Big Ten) with the win. Indiana managed to score during the overtime to win the game.

In the first half, Indiana's Kim Grodek started off the scoring with a header into the goal at 5:03, with an assist from Carrie DeFreece. Spartan Erin Konheim (So., West Bloomfield) scored first for the Spartans at 31:25, with an assist from Jenee Witherspoon (Fr., Midland). Michigan State's Emma Harris (Jr., Portage) managed to score again for the Spartans at 34:36, with an assist from Abby Shepherd (Jr., Milford). Near the end of the second half, the Hoosiers' Kim Grodek scored her second goal of the game in the 89th minute, with an assist from Robin Barker, to send the game into overtime tied 2-2. In the 92nd minute, Indiana's Missy Vierling scored the game-winning goal for the Hoosiers, with an assist from Emily Hotz.

Indiana outshot the Spartans, 16-9, with Spartan goalkeeper Stacy Heller (Sr., Madison, Wis.) finishing the game with seven saves. The Hoosiers' goalkeepers, Shaunna Daugherty and Stacey Van Boxmeer, finished with three combined saves.

"Obviously, we had two extremely disappointing setbacks this weekend," said head coach Tom Saxton. "We have to come back tomorrow at practice and get ready for next week. It's good that we have a quick game coming up on Wednesday."

MSU plays host to Bowling Green on Wednesday, Oct. 15 at 4 p.m. at Old College Field
