Women's Golf Finishes 16th At NCAA Fall Preview

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Michigan State women's golf team finished 16th at the NCAA Fall Preview with a 72-over 936 (306-317-313) on Tuesday, Sept. 17. Arizona, who had entered the final day in fourth place, won the Preview with a 25-over 889 (299-298-292). Oklahoma State was three strokes behind at 28-over 892, while Vanderbilt (290-305-306-901), Duke (297-300-305-902) and Auburn (301-299-304-904) rounded out the top five. The NCAA Fall Preview is being held at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex in West Lafayette, Ind.
Freshman Dayna Burleigh (Horsham, Pa.) was MSU's top individual finisher, placing tied for 18th. Burleigh shot a 74 on the final day and finished her first collegiate tournament at 9-over 225 (73-78-74). She was even through the front nine and shot a 2-over 74 on the back nine today.
Arizona's Miriam Kraschinski took medallist honors after shooting 2-under 70 on the final day. Kraschinski finished the preview with a 75-70-70-215. Pepperdine's Katherine Hull (75-73-71-219) and Vanderbilt's Sarah Jacobs (70-73-76-219) tied for second with a 219, while Oklahoma's Lisa Meldrum placed fourth with a 220 (75-74-71).
Allison Fouch (Grand Rapids, Mich.) finished tied for 59th after posting a three-day score of 77-78-81-236. Teammate Sarah Martin (Grosse Ile, Mich.) also shot an 81 on day three and placed tied for 66th with a 238 (76-81-81).
Rounding out the Spartan line-up is Ann Marie Kersten (Oak Harbor, Ohio), who placed tied for 69th with a 82-80-77-239 and Jessica Till (Fort Wayne, Ind.), who finished tied for 80th with a 80-83-83-246. Kersten shot a 1-under 35 on the back nine today with birdies on holes 11 and 14.
Michigan State returns to action this Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 21-22, when the Spartans host the Mary Fossum Invitational at Forest Akers West Golf Course.
