Men's Golf Claims Third At Inverness Intercollegiate

TOLEDO, Ohio - The Michigan State men's golf team finished third out of 15 teams at the Inverness Intercollegiate Invitational, hosted by the University of Toledo at the storied Inverness Country Club. The Spartans shot a final round score of 299 Tuesday (Sept. 17), which gave them a three-round tournament score of 889 (291-299-299). Michigan State finished 11 strokes shy of tournament champion Florida.
"We got off to a slower start today," said Michigan State coach Mark Hankins. "They fought hard to keep it respectable. A 299 is not a bad score, but we never got rolling."
Michigan State was led by senior All-American Eric Jorgensen (Big Rapids, Mich.), who finished tied for eighth place with a score of 220 (73-73-74). Junior Casey Lubahn (Sand Lake, Mich.) tied for 12th place as he carded a score of 221 (71-75-75).
Senior John Koskinen (Baraga, Mich.) finished one stroke back of Lubahn. Koskinen carded a tournament score of 222 (76-74-72), good for a share of 16th place. Sophomore Andrew Ruthkoski (Muskegon, Mich.) recorded a 229 (74-77-78) and tied for 37th place. Junior Ben Fox (Fort Wayne, Ind.) turned in a tournament score of 237 (73-82-82), which tied for 64th overall.
Michigan State returns to action Sept. 28 at the Northern Intercollegiate in Bloomington, Ind.
