EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State sophomore guard Chris Hill (Indianapolis, Ind.) has been selected to travel with the Big Ten Men's Basketball Foreign Tour Team. The tour, which runs from August 8-18, will include five games in Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands. The team will be coached by Illinois' Bill Self.
"I am very excited to get an opportunity to play with the Foreign Tour Team," said Hill. "In addition to getting a chance to play with some very talented players from around the Big Ten, it will also be my first time overseas. I hope to get some time at point guard and get some game experience there. I've also been working a lot this summer on shooting off the dribble and look forward to putting that into action in some games."
The 6-foot-3, 185-pound Hill appeared in all 31 games during the 2001-02 season, starting 12. He was MSU's second-leading scorer, averaging 11.5 points per contest. He led the Spartans in three-point field goals made and three-point field-goal percentage, shooting .446 (66-of-148) from behind the arc. He also established MSU freshman records for three-point field goals made and three-point field-goal attempts. His best game of the season was a 25-point effort vs. Minnesota on Jan. 5, when he started at point guard in place of an injured Marcus Taylor.
"This should be a great experience for Chris Hill," said MSU head coach Tom Izzo. "He will have a chance to get a lot of playing time, perhaps even some time at point guard. With the departure of Marcus Taylor, Chris will have a much larger role on this year's team."
Last season, Spartans Adam Wolfe (Westerville, Ohio) and Jason Andreas (Sugarcreek, Ohio) helped lead the 2001 Big Ten Men's Basketball Foreign Tour Team to a perfect 6-0 record. Wolfe led the squad in both scoring (14.3 ppg) and rebounding (6.5 rpg), while Andreas ranked fifth on the team in rebounding (4.2 rpg).
