Williams Finishes In Top 10 At U.S. Nationals

PALO ALTO, Calif. - Junior Sherita Williams (Tampa, Fla.) finished ninth overall in the triple jump (42' 1 ?") at the 2002 U.S. Senior National Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday afternoon (June 22). The U.S. Nationals are being hosted by Stanford University at Cobb Track and Angell Field and run from June 21-23.
Williams took home third in the triple jump at the 2001 U.S. Junior Track and Field Championships. This year, she set the MSU school record in the long jump (20' 1/2") and the triple jump (42' 10 3/4").
Williams earned All-America honors with her 12th-place finish in the triple jump at the 2002 NCAA Championships. She was the 2002 Big Ten conference champion in the triple jump, for the second time, which earned her All-Big Ten first team honors. Williams captured the Big Ten Championship in the triple jump at the 2001 Big Ten Indoor Championships.
Freshman Michelle Rzepka (Novi, Mich.) competed in the pole vault at the U.S. Junior National Outdoor Track and Field Championships also on Saturday in Palo Alto. However, she did not place in the championships.
