Terek Places Second In Decathlon At NCAA Championships

BATON ROUGE, La. - Michigan State's Paul Terek (Livonia, Mich.) recorded top-four showings in four of five events en route to a second-place finish in the decathlon at the NCAA Track and Field Championships Saturday.
The two-time Big Ten decathlon champion completed the event with 8,041 points, just 53 fewer than Louisiana State's Claston Bernard. The Spartan senior also broke the school record in the decathlon with his showing at the national meet, topping the 7,926 points he logged in finishing first in the event at the Mount SAC Relays in April.
Terek, who entered the day in sixth place in the decathlon, placed second in both the 1500-meter run and the pole vault and posted fourth-place finishes in the discus and javelin. In his
By placing second in the decathlon, Terek automatically earned All-America recognition for the second straight year. The top eight American-born finishers in each event are awarded All-American honors.
