Somerville Advances At NCAA Track And Field Championships

BATON ROUGE, La. - Senior Ann Somerville (Ironwood, Mich.) advanced to Saturday's final in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. She finished eighth in today's preliminaries with a time of 10:14.51.
Today's time broke the MSU school record set by Somerville two weeks ago when she became a conference champion in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Big Ten Championships in Madison, Wis.
Junior Lynlee Phillips (Shamong, N.J.) finished 13th in the javelin with a toss of 156'. Purdue senior Serena Ross finished first with a toss of 195'08".
The NCAA Track and Field Championships continue tomorrow. The Spartan women are off until Saturday when Somerville competes in the finals of the 3,000-meter steeplechase and junior Sherita Williams (Tampa, Fla.) goes for a national championship in the triple jump.
