ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Michigan State senior Paul Terek (Livonia, Mich.) continued his domination in the pole vault, winning first-honors in that event at the University of Michigan's Paddock Invitational Saturday.
Terek, who also won the pole vault at last weekend's Central Collegiate and the Hillsdale Relays in April, cleared a height of 18 feet-5 inches this afternoon. Teammate Matt Deering (Dowagiac, Mich.), meanwhile, placed second with a successful vault of 16-11. Deering has finished as runner-up to Terek in each of the Spartans' last three meets.
Sophomore Steve Manz (West Branch, Mich.) also had a strong showing Saturday, finishing first in the shot put with a throw of 56-10 and placing third in the discus throw at 156-3. The Paddock Invitational marks the third straight meet in which Manz, an All-American as a freshman who is working his way back from an injury earlier this season, has posted a top-three finish.
Senior Jeff Kus (Grand Ledge, Mich.), with a successful jump of 6-8, finished third in Friday's high jump finals.
The Spartans travel to Madison, Wis., for next week's Big Ten Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The event, hosted by the University of Wisconsin, gets underway Friday and concludes Sunday.
