Women's Track Wraps Up Weekend in Notre Dame

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The Michigan State women's track and field team sent select athletes to compete in the annual Notre Dame Spring Opener on Saturday (April 6) at Moose Krause Stadium in South Bend. The meet featured Michigan State along with in-state rivals Central Michigan and Western Michigan as well as, host Notre Dame.
Senior Nadia Ricketts (Kingston, Jamaica) led the way for the Spartans finishing first in the long jump with a mark of 18'0 ?" and second in the triple jump with a mark of 36'9 ?." Junior Lynlee Phillips (Shamong, N.J.) also performed well in the field events placing second in the javelin (122') and third in the hammer throw (142'4"). Her toss in the hammer throw set a new personal-best mark.
Freshman thrower Ronya Bell (Mount Sterling, Mich.) stepped up for the Spartans finishing second in the shot put (37'6 ?"), fifth in the discuss throw (108'2") and eighth in the hammer throw (116'11"). Junior Shiloh Wint (Westland, Mich.) also took home a second-place finish in the pole vault with a mark of 11'00." It was a personal-best mark for Wint and also placed her second on MSU's all-time outdoor performance list.
Sophomore Liz VanWagner (Traverse City, Mich.) placed in the top 10 in four different events. She finished sixth in the 100m hurdles (15.78), seventh in the high jump (4'7"), eighth in the long jump (15'9") and 10th in the javelin throw (77'6 ?").
Other top 10 finishes for the Spartans include: freshman Danielle Linenger, fifth in the high jump (4'11"), freshman Katie Anderson (Marquette, Mich.), fifth in the 3000 meter run (10:16.69), freshman Michelle Martin (Richland, Mich.), seventh in the pole vault (10'6"), junior Erin Alexander (Grand Blanc, Mich.), seventh in the triple jump (34'6 ?"), and freshman Susan Manz (West Branch, Mich.), 10th in the hammer throw (112'4").
The Spartans return to action Saturday, April 13, as they travel to Ann Arbor, Mich., for the Michigan Invitational.
