Jason Richardson Named To NBA All-Rookie First Team

NEW YORK, N.Y. - Former Michigan State All-American Jason Richardson was named to the 2001-02 got milk? NBA All-Rookie First Team on Monday, April 29. He was joined on the first team by Memphis Grizzlies teammates Pau Gasol and Shane Battier, San Antonio Spurs' Tony Parker and Andrei Kirilenko of the Utah Jazz.
In his first season with the Golden State Warriors, Richardson appeared in 80 games, starting 75. He averaged 14.4 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.0 assists. His 32.9 minutes per game were second most on the team. He ranked third among NBA rookies in points per game and minutes per contest.
Richardson captured everyone's attention at the 2002 NBA All-Star Weekend. He opened the weekend by winning MVP honors at the 2002 NBA All-Star 'got milk?' Rookie Challenge, scoring 26 points and grabbing six rebounds to lead the NBA first-year players over the NBA sophomores. Richardson followed that performance by capturing the NBA.com Slam Dunk Championship.
As a sophomore at Michigan State in 2000-01, Richardson earned second-team All-America honors from the Associated Press. During his time with the Spartans, Richardson won one NCAA Championship, two regular-season Big Ten Championships, one Big Ten Tournament title and appeared in two Final Fours.
