EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State men's track and field will head to South Bend, Ind., this Saturday (April 6) to compete in Notre Dame's Spring Opener. Competition will begin at 9 a.m., at Moose Krause Stadium. The Spartan's main concern now is earning qualifying marks for the 2002 NCAA Outdoor Championship, which will be held this May in Baton Rouge, La.
One Spartan has already qualified for a trip to the NCAA Championship. Senior Paul Terek (Livonia, Mich.) automatically qualified in the pole vault after this past week's performance at Stanford. Terek cleared the bar at 17-8 1/2, which tied his school record and also earned him a second-place spot in the nation behind Texas senior Brian Hunter. Terek was the lone Spartan competitor in last year's NCAA Championship.
