EAST LANSING, Mich. - MSU senior captain Paul Terek (Livonia, Mich.) earned his second Big Ten Athlete of the Week honor for the 2002 outdoor season.
Terek took first in the Mt. SAC Relay decathlon in Azusa, Calif. His performance (7,926 points) broke his previous school record and pushed him to third in the NCAA and the world. Terek's first-place showing in the pole vault at the 2001 Indoor Big Ten Championship also earned him a place in the conference record books.
He continued his excellence into the 2001 outdoor season. Terek broke the decathlon record with a first-place performance of 7,695 points at the 2001 Big Ten Outdoor Championships and was champion of the decathlon and the pole vault. His performances led to his being honored as the Athlete of the Meet and Big Ten Athlete of the Year.
