Taylor Selected To USBWA All-District Team

EAST LANSING, Mich. - In what has already been a busy week for him, Marcus Taylor (Lansing, Mich./Waverly) was named USBWA All-District V on Wednesday. On Monday, Taylor earned Big Ten Player of the Week honors, followed on Tuesday with the announcement that he had been named first-team All-Big Ten.
The sophomore guard is one of 10 players from the states of Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio and Wisconsin to be honored by the members of the United States Basketball Writers Association. He is joined on the all-district team by David Bailey of Loyola, Trevor Huffman of Kent State, Jared Jeffries of Indiana, Steve Logan of Cincinnati, Keith McLeod of Bowling Green, Kirk Penney of Wisconsin, Dwyane Wade of Marquette, David West of Xavier and Frank Williams of Illinois.
For the year, the 6-foot-3, 195-pound Taylor is averaging 16.7 points and 5.4 assists per game. He is shooting 40.8 percent from the field, including 38.4 percent from three-point range, and 82.1 percent from the free throw line. He also leads the Spartans with 29 steals. In 27 games this season, Taylor has led the Spartans in scoring 18 times and assists in 25 games. In Big Ten games, he led the league in scoring (17.7 ppg) and assists (5.0), becoming just the second player in conference history to accomplish the feat.
