PALO ALTO, Calif. - The Michigan State women's track and field team sent three of its best distance runners to the 28th annual Stanford Invitational to compete in the 10,000 meter run on Fri., March 29. The Stanford Invitational is being held at Cobb Track and Angell Field on Fri. and Sat. (March 29-30) in Palo Alto, Calif. The Invitational features thousands of top high school and collegiate athletes from around the nation, as well as many top post-collegiate athletes. It is a non-scoring meet that produced more than 180 NCAA Division I automatic or provisional qualifiers last year.
Sophomore Jamie Krzyminski (Corunna, Mich.) led the Spartans as she finished 10th overall, and the sixth collegiate runner in the 10,000 meter run with a time of 33.58. The time earned Krzyminski a third-place spot on the all-time MSU outdoor performance list for that event. Sophomore Michelle Carson (Winnipeg, Manitoba) broke her previous personal best as she finished 15th in the 10,000 meter run with a time of 34.11. Carson holds the fifth-place spot on the all-time outdoor performance list for the Spartans. Junior Cindy Durocher (Parry Sound, Ontario) also competed in the 10,000 meter event. She finished in the first heat with a time of 36.38.
The Spartans will continue the outdoor season as they head to Austin, Texas, for the Texas Relays on April 5-6.
