Fayetteville, Ark. - Sophomore Steve Sherer (Saline, Mich.) was one of two athletes representing Michigan State this past weekend (March 8-9) at the 2002 NCAA Men's Indoor Track and Field Championships in Fayetteville, Ark. Sherer placed eighth among Americans and 15th overall in the 3,000 meters with a time of 8:10.48, which earned him All-America honors. According to NCAA rules, the top eight Americans in each event earn All-America status.
Senior Paul Terek (Livonia, Mich.) placed second in the pole vault (17-11 3/4) to earn All-America honors as well. He and four other vaulters cleared the height 17-11 3/4, but BYU's Jeff Hansen took first-place honors because he had fewer misses on earlier attempts. Terek's runner-up finish earned the Spartans eight points, which put them in a tie for 23rd place.
The MSU men's track and field team will start its 2002 outdoor season March 23-24 with the Alabama Relays hosted by University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
