MSU Men's Cross Country Places 30th At NCAA Championships

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Michigan State men's cross country team placed 30th Monday at the NCAA Championships hosted by Indiana State University. Stanford won the national championship with 47 points, easily outdistancing runner-up Wisconsin which finished second with 107 points.
Junior Andrew Marsh (Grand Ledge), who placed 17th at the NCAA Regionals, continued his strong finish to the season by leading the Spartans individually. Marsh completed the 10k course in 41st place with a time of 30:40.1. Sophomore Chris Toloff (Novi), MSU's No. 1 runner all season, was the second best Spartan on this day, placing 74th with a time of 31:06.6.
Junior Jason Mueller (Shelby, Ohio) was next for MSU, finishing in 149th with a time of 31:459.7. The other point scorers for MSU were sophomore Mike Thorson (Port Elgin, Ont.), who was 182nd in 32:40.0, and junior Brian Wilson (North Branch), who placed 200th with a time of 33:17.2.
Also competing for MSU, which finished 18th at last year's NCAA Championships, was sophomore Steve Sherer (Saline), who was 213th in 34:55.7, and junior James Johnson (Eaton Rapids), who was 214th in 35:46.6.
