Nike Elite vs. Michigan StateNovember 14, 2002Exhibition Game
Nike Elite Coach Glenn Sergent: "I told the guys before the game, 'Look, Tom's got a reputation of being tough on defense and board hard. So get ready, it's going to be a tough ball game and it was.' I thought the kids played tough. It was a strange game."
On playing colleges in exhibition games... "I learned quickly what these guys wanted. They want us to be tough. They want us to come in and play hard. When I recruit guys I tell them to show up in shape and play hard. That is all I ask."
Michigan State Coach Tom Izzo: "Well, We have a long long way to go. I don't know where to start except that if we don't get some guys healthy, you will not see the three big-guy line-up for the rest of my life. I think I hurt us in that I went to it because I was afraid with the injuries that we have right now, that we might have to play that way in the next week or two. In fairness to those guys, we haven't had the chance to work on it very much. So everything I say is going to be excuse related, just because we have not played together."
"Bograkos has not practiced in a week. Davis has not practiced in a week. We have no chemistry right now. These injuries are just eating us alive. I don't know whether to be disappointed, frustrated or mad, but I'm probably I little bit of each. We had the big lead early and I subbed everybody just because I think I have to do it."
"I know KT (Kelvin Torbert) probably won't be back for the first game. I know Maurice (Ager) will not be back for the first couple of weeks. I think Paul Davis and Tim Bograkos will."
