Women's Golf Inks Pair To National Letters of Intent

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State women's golf coach Stacy Slobodnik-Stoll has signed a pair of golfers to National Letters of Intent for the 2003-04 season. Mandi McConnell and Heather Rose will join the Spartans in the fall of 2003.
"We are very excited to sign two golfers that are high-caliber athletes," said Slobodnik-Stoll. "Both Mandi and Heather have a great deal of experience on the junior circuit, and with that experience they really want to succeed here at MSU. They are both wonderful kids. It is very important for the team chemistry to be successful."
Mandi McConnell, Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc High School
Posted 10 top-five finishes and 16 top-10 finishes on the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) tour ... Received the AJGA Oreo Award (low round final scorer) ... Played on the Power-Bilt Tour, posting 27 wins and receiving the Player of the Year award for three straight years ... Received All-State Super Team and All Big-9 Dream team honors for three straight years as a member of the Grand Blanc High School golf team ... Big-I won the regional, state and placed third nationally ... Placed first at the 2001 Michigan Junior Girls Tournament ... Broke Kelly Robins record for the lowest round at the Davison Invitational ... Broke a 38-year record at Flint Junior Golf, becoming the first person to win 5-9-18 hole events consecutively .... Was the youngest person to ever win the 18-hole event ... Won the 2001 U.S. Girls qualifier.
Heather Rose, Chillicothe, Ohio/Chillicothe High School
Was a four-year varsity letterwinner on Chillicothe Boys' High School Team ... Averaged a 76 in 2002 ... Received all-league honors in Ohio Capital Conference (Columbus, Ohio) in 2001 and 2002 ... First-team All-State after finishing fourth in 2000 ... 2002 Ohio State Junior Girls Champion ... Qualified for the USGA Girl's Junior Championship in 2001 and 2002 ... Made the cut in 2001 and qualified for match play ... Placed third in the UCT International Championship in 1998 and was second in 1999 ... Was fourth in the AJGA Kroger Junior Invitational in 2002.
