Women's Golf Finishes Sixth At Give'Em Five Intercollegiate

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The Michigan State women's golf team moved up four places to finish sixth at the New Mexico State Give'Em Five Intercollegiate. The Give'Em Five Intercollegiate is being held at the 6,307-yard, par 72 NMSU Golf Course in Las Cruces, N.M.
MSU entered the day in 10th place, but shot the second-best score of the day with a 294 to finish sixth. The Spartans finished the tournament with a team score of 915 (315-306-294). Baylor, which shot a 293 on the final day, won the event with an 894 (304-297-293). New Mexico State, who had led the tournament heading into the final day, slipped to second place with an 896 (305-291-300). New Mexico (299-304-301=904), San Jose State (308-302-299=909) and Oklahoma (314-297-308=919) rounded out the top five.
Junior Sarah Martin (Grosse Ile, Mich.) was MSU's top finisher, placing sixth. Martin shot a three-day total of 221 (74-75-72). New Mexico State's Alena Sharp won the individual title posting a 3-under 213 (74-69-70), while TCU's Brooke Tull finished second with a 216 (75-72-69).
Junior Allison Fouch (Grand Rapids, Mich.) carded a 72 on the final day to place sixth. Fouch shot a three-day score of 76-75-72=223. Freshman Dayna Burleigh (Horsham, Pa.) finished tied for 37th after posting a three-round score of 232 (80-78-74).
Rounding out the Spartan lineup are junior Ann Marie Kersten (Oak Harbor, Ohio) and red-shirt freshman Christy Jonkhoff. Kersten placed tied for 60th with an 85-78-76=239, while Jonkhoff tied for 64th with an 85-78-77=240.
Michigan State returns to action, Oct. 18-20 at the Mercedes Benz Intercollegiate in Knoxville, Tenn.
