Women's Golf Finishes Eighth At Mercedes-Benz Intercollegiate

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The Michigan State women's golf team closed out the fall portion of its schedule with an eighth-place finish at the Mercedes-Benz Intercollegiate Championship on Sunday (Oct. 20). MSU shot a 313 on day three and closed the tournament with a three-round score of 304-313-313-930 at the Gettysvue Polo, Golf and Country Club in Knoxville, Tenn.
Auburn, who had entered the final day of competition in third place, shot a 292 on day three en route to taking the team title with an 899 (303-304-292). The Swedish Junior National Team finished second with a 300-303-303-906, while Florida placed third with a 303-290-308-911. North Carolina (314-297-301-912) and Purdue (304-309-306-919) round out the top five teams.
Junior Sarah Martin (Grosse Ile, Mich.), who was in 20th place heading into the final day of competition, moved up seven spots to finish tied for 13th. Martin shot a 76 in the third round and finished with a three-round score of 229 (77-76-76). North Carolina's Ashley Prange took medalist honors after posting a 72-70-76-218.
Junior Allison Fouch (Grand Rapids, Mich.) and senior Jessica Till (Fort Wayne, Ind.) finished in a four-way tie for 28th place. Fouch shot an 81 on day three and finished the tournament with a 76-76-81-233. Till posted a 78 and shot a three-round score of 75-80-78-233.
Freshman Dayna Burleigh (Horsham, Pa.) tied for 37th with a 76-81-78-235, while red-shirt freshman Christy Jonkhoff (Traverse City, Mich.) placed 77th after shooting a 94-94-90-278.
