Women's Golf Heads To Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championships

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State women's golf team closes out the fall season at the 2002 Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championships this weekend (Oct. 18-20) at the Gettysvue Country Club in Knoxville, Tenn. The Gettysvue Country Club is a par-72, 5,985-yard course.
The 15-team tournament field features: Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Furman, Kentucky, LSU, Michigan, Michigan State, North Carolina, Northwestern, Penn State, Purdue, Swedish Junior National Team, Tennessee and UNLV. Five teams (Auburn, Florida, North Carolina, Purdue and Tennessee) are ranked in this week's Golfweek Top 25.
Michigan State has been off since a sixth-place finish at the New Mexico State's Give'Em Five Intercollegiate, Oct. 7-9. Juniors Sarah Martin (Grosse Ile, Mich.) and Allison Fouch (Grand Rapids, Mich.) paced MSU with sixth and seventh-place finishes, respectively.
The Spartans' starting five for the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championships are: Martin, Fouch, freshman Dayna Burleigh (Horsham, Pa.), senior Jessica Till (Fort Wayne, Ind.) and red-shirt freshman Christy Jonkhoff (Traverse City, Mich.).
Following this weekend, Michigan State returns to action Feb. 10-12, 2003 at the TRW Regional Challenge in Palos Verdes Estates, Calif.
