BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) - Tom Coverdale scored 22 points and Jared Jeffries added 21 as Indiana made 14 3-pointers in an 83-65 victory over No. 22 Michigan State on Tuesday night.
The Hoosiers (10-5, 3-0 Big Ten) made 10 of 16 3-pointers in the first half to build a 24-point lead. Coverdale made his first six 3-point attempts, scoring 21 in the first half, and Dane Fife was 3-for-4. Fife finished with 14.
Coverdale made his first eight shots overall before missing a 3 midway through the second half.
Indiana shot 65 percent overall in the first half and led 48-26. The Hoosiers struggled at first to regain their shot in the second half, making only four baskets in the first 10 minutes. The Spartans (9-6, 0-2) capitalized with a 16-8 run to make it a 14-point game.
But Jeffries hit a 3 and Kyle Hornsby followed with a steal on the next possession. Hornsby hit a 3-pointer to push Indiana's lead back to 20.
By the time Jeff Newton converted a three-point play to make it 74-51, the sold-out crowd at Assembly Hall was chanting "Overrated! Overrated!" at the Spartans.
Marcus Taylor and Aloysius Anagonye each scored 17 for the Spartans, who have lost three straight.
It was the fourth time this season Indiana has made 10 more 3s in game, including a school-record 16 against Alaska-Anchorage. But the Hoosiers have been streaky, missing 13 of 14 attempts the previous game against Penn State and making 4-for-31 combined in consecutive games against Miami and Kentucky.
Indiana beat then-No. 1 Michigan State a year ago at Assembly Hall when Kirk Haston hit a 3-pointer as time expired.
