Women's Soccer Falls In Big Ten Opener

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State women's soccer team (3-2-1, 0-1) was defeated by Iowa (2-4, 1-0), 1-0, on Friday afternoon in Iowa City. The Hawkeyes scored in the 80th minute to claim the victory in the Big Ten opener for both squads.
The two teams battled in a scoreless first half, highlighted by solid defense. Both teams' goalkeepers finished the first half with six saves.
The second half was more of the same, as the game remained scoreless until the 80th minute. Iowa's Rennice Sherard scored unassisted at 79:47 to give the Hawkeyes a 1-0 lead that they would not relinquish.
Michigan State returns to action on Sunday, Sept. 23 at 3 p.m. EDT at Illinois.
