Michigan State track and field head coach Angela Goodman has been appointed as an assistant coach for the 2001 World University Games in Beijing, China. The 2001 World University Games will be held August 27 - September 1, 2001.
"It's an honor to be selected as part of the staff," Goodman said. "As an assistant coach I will get the opportunity to meet and work with some of the best student-athletes from around the world."
Goodman's team had to qualify at the USA Championships in Eugene, Ore., earlier this summer. Goodman was selected at the USA Track and Field Convention last December. She departs Aug. 18.
"It will be a great opportunity to go to Beijing, China, especially since they named China as the site of the 2008 Olympic Games," Goodman said. "It will also be a great chance to work with Craig Poole (Brigham Young University Women's Head Track and Field Coach) and some of my other colleagues."
Goodman is beginning her fourth year as the director of the Michigan State women's cross country team as well as the women's head track and field coach. The Fort Wayne, Ind., native served as an assistant coach for the U.S. National Team at the 1997 World Outdoor Championships in Athens, Greece.
Coach Goodman and the Michigan State women's cross country team will be in action starting in the Spartans' only home meet of the season, the Spartan Invitational on Sept. 21 at Forest Akers East Golf Course at 4 p.m.
